Carrick stands firm but keeps Fernandes as captain
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has responded to a question about whether the club’s midfielder Bruno Fernandes will retain the captain’s armband.
According to TodayPress TV, citing the BBC, the English manager addressed the issue ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League match against Chelsea in the ninth round.
It should be noted that Fernandes had previously openly criticised Carrick and his coaching staff’s tactical decisions following a defeat in a UEFA Champions League match. His comments reportedly led to disagreements between the two sides.
Nevertheless, Carrick has confirmed that the Portuguese player will remain captain.
“As I have already said, he is an important player for this team. He has been important in the past, and he will continue to be so. We need to work together to change the situation and put everything on the right track.
“He is fully committed to this football club and wants to make everything better. So nothing changes.
“Fernandes has led the team successfully for many years and across numerous matches. He will continue to do so,” Carrick said.
