Police entry into the building of Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal has sparked political controversy in the country.

TodayPress TV reports that, according to information circulating on social media, police officers allegedly acting on the instructions of Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government entered the Constitutional Tribunal building.

According to the allegations, security personnel responsible for protecting the building and the Tribunal’s documents were removed from the premises. It was also reported that the deputy president of the Tribunal was denied entry to the building.

Critics of the incident have described it as interference with the independence of the judiciary and a violation of democratic principles.

According to Polish media reports, on October 30, Warsaw police carried out security measures on the grounds of the Constitutional Tribunal. Police said the operation was prompted by a request from one of the judges, who had raised concerns about a possible threat to the life and health of staff members.

Law enforcement authorities have denied reports that officers forcibly entered the building or removed security guards. Police also stated that their officers had not entered the Tribunal building.

Three people who climbed over the fence and entered the Tribunal grounds during the incident were detained.

Meanwhile, Polish President Karol Nawrocki has decided to cut short his visit to Senegal and return to the country amid the situation.

Tensions surrounding Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal have been ongoing since mid-October. One of the main sources of the dispute is a disagreement between the government and the president over the appointment of judges and the swearing-in procedure.

On October 16, prosecutors also arrived at the Tribunal building accompanied by police and obtained documents and surveillance camera footage as part of an investigation. Although the Tribunal’s leadership considered the intervention unlawful, it voluntarily handed over the requested materials.
