Europe braces for protests: The issue fuelling public discontent
Preparations are underway for large-scale protests in several European countries amid rising living costs, low wages and growing dissatisfaction with government policies.
According to TodayPress TV, the information was reported by Bloomberg.
According to the report, thousands of people are expected to take to the streets in France, Germany and Italy on October 30-31. The main reasons for the protests are rising prices, social inequality and dissatisfaction with government economic policies.
In recent weeks, demonstrations have also taken place in Belgium, Portugal, Serbia and Albania. Young people have been particularly active in organising the protests.
In France, the authorities are preparing to mobilise 70,000 police officers to prevent potential unrest. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez has warned that the risk of large-scale clashes is high. According to him, some radical groups are spreading calls for violence.
Members of the Yellow Vests movement are also expected to join the protests. School pupils and university students, meanwhile, are demanding better educational conditions and reforms to the system.
In Germany, the youth movement “Gen Z Regelt” plans to organise demonstrations in 32 cities. Participants are protesting against rising prices and social inequality.
In Italy, trade unions have called a general strike to protest rising living costs, stagnant wages and increased defence spending. As a result, disruptions could affect public transport, schools and hospitals.
Italy’s Transport Minister Matteo Salvini called on transport workers to change the timing of the strike, but trade unions rejected his request.
In Spain, preparations are also underway for possible protests in Madrid following a railway accident on October 28 that reportedly claimed 69 lives.
According to Bloomberg's assessment, the wave of protests reflects growing dissatisfaction across Europe with economic conditions, infrastructure problems and government performance.
