A powerful explosion has occurred at the El Fargue ammunition factory in Granada, Spain. Several workers are reported to have sustained minor injuries.

TodayPress TV reports, citing the Europa Press news agency.

The explosion occurred at around 9:00 a.m. local time on October 30 in the factory’s gunpowder ignition area.

The blast was felt in various parts of the city and in nearby residential areas. A thick column of smoke rose above the site following the incident.

According to preliminary information, most of the injured workers suffered hearing problems, while some sustained minor burns. They were taken to hospital. No deaths or serious injuries have been reported.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Initial theories suggest that it may have occurred during the destruction or quality testing of artillery shells. Factory management has described the incident as an accident.

The police explosives disposal unit, TEDAX, is investigating the site. Access to the factory has been temporarily restricted as a safety precaution.

El Fargue is one of Spain’s oldest military-industrial facilities and currently operates as part of Slovakia’s MSM Group.
