Shock comeback averted at the last moment: Mourinho explains why
Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has spoken about his team’s loss of concentration during the difficult 3–2 victory over Elche in the sixth round of La Liga.
TodayPress TV reports that he made the remarks to the club’s official website.
The Portuguese coach said it was unacceptable for the team to become complacent by assuming the match would be easy:
“There is no explanation for it. The only answer that comes to my mind is that the game was seen as an ‘easy match.’ You don’t finish the game in time, you don’t score the third, fourth or fifth goal, then you lower the tempo and give control to the opponent. Perhaps you misjudge how easy the chances you create are. You are on the pitch, you have one, two, three chances and you may think, ‘This is very easy.’ But it isn’t. The opponent scores one goal and everything changes.”
It should be recalled that although Real Madrid took a 2–0 lead, they surrendered their advantage and allowed the score to become 2–2 before securing all three points with a goal in stoppage time to make it 3–2.
After six La Liga matches, the “Royal Club” have 15 points and sit second in the standings.
