Tensions alleged over ambassadorial appointment: Moscow responds
The Russian Foreign Ministry has denied reports that Moscow refused to approve the appointment of Armenia’s new ambassador to Russia.
According to TodayPress TV, the newspaper Hraparak had earlier reported that Russia rejected the candidacy of Samvel Mkrtchyan, whom Armenia intended to appoint as its ambassador to Moscow. The publication linked the alleged rejection to Mkrtchyan’s activities in Europe.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, however, said reports that it had refused to approve Samvel Mkrtchyan’s nomination for the ambassadorial post were untrue.
“The information published in this outlet does not correspond to the truth,” the ministry said in a statement.
