Drone attacks shut down all Moscow airports
Following drone attacks targeting Moscow on October 23, the capital’s four airports suspended aircraft arrivals and departures. The disruption resulted in delays and cancellations on flights between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
According to TodayPress TV, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that 17 drones had been destroyed while approaching the capital after 1:30 p.m.
Emergency services are currently operating in areas where the drones fell.
Flight restrictions were introduced at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports from 2 p.m. An air attack alert was declared at Sheremetyevo Airport, and passengers were directed to safe areas and shelters. Access to some sections of the terminal was also restricted.
Airlines Aeroflot and Rossiya announced changes to their flight schedules. Some flights were cancelled, while others were delayed or diverted to alternative airports.
St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport is also preparing to receive aircraft diverted from Moscow.
According to the flight schedule, seven flights from St. Petersburg to Moscow were cancelled. In addition, nine flights were delayed by less than two hours, while three experienced delays of two hours or more.
