Arrests in France reach 2,700 following unrest
The total number of people detained in France following the unrest on October 17 has reached 2,700.
According to TodayPress TV, French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin told journalists at a briefing.
“Some 2,700 people have been detained, 217 of whom have been held in custody since Saturday [October 17 — ed.],” he emphasised.
Darmanin noted that half of those held in custody had no prior criminal convictions. He added that extremely tough measures had been taken.
It is worth recalling that mass demonstrations took place in Paris and across France on October 17 in protest against rising fuel prices and declining purchasing power.
