Yemen’s Houthis reach strategic Perim Island

Iran-aligned Yemen’s Houthis have reached strategic Perim Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

TodayPress TV reports, citing Reuters, that the development has taken place amid the Houthis’ rapid advance along Yemen’s Red Sea coast.

Yemeni government forces are reportedly withdrawing from the island, while the Houthis have also captured the city of Dhubab, which overlooks the island.

The Houthis’ rapid advance along the Red Sea coast has increased the threat to shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

According to Reuters, Saudi Arabia has asked the United States to carry out strikes against the Houthis, but Donald Trump rejected the request.
