Members of the Mecca alliance at the same table with Iran – What is Pezeshkian proposing?
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the organisation of discussions among Islamic countries at a meeting attended by Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organisation chief Ibrahim Kalin.
According to TodayPress TV, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported this.
Referring to the fundamental shared values of the Islamic world, Pezeshkian said:
“Our belief and conviction is that Islamic countries should make the principles of brotherhood and unity the foundation of their relations. Muslims are brothers to one another and must stand as a united force against threats and actions targeting Muslim nations. If we accept this fundamental principle as the basis of our mutual relations, there will be no grounds for disagreements and problems to arise among Islamic countries.”
Pezeshkian stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran would firmly defend the legitimate rights and interests of its people within the framework of the principles and rules of international law.
Expressing hope that Islamic countries would play an effective role in strengthening regional stability, the Iranian president said:
“I hope that the participation of representatives of important and influential Islamic countries in this meeting will pave the way for further strengthening regional unity and solidarity. We must not allow the Israeli regime to carry out assassinations and acts of aggression against any person or country whenever it wishes. I am confident that if Islamic countries come together and adopt a coordinated position, such actions will not be repeated.”
Pezeshkian added that regional problems could be resolved more easily and effectively if Islamic countries managed their differences and focused on their common ground and shared interests rather than contentious issues.
“Our goal is for all the peoples of the region to pursue development and progress in an environment characterised by peace, security, prosperity and equal opportunities. Our region has abundant natural resources, extensive economic opportunities and skilled human resources. We need only to combine these capabilities to turn the region into a successful model for the world in implementing the principles of humanism, justice, respect for the law and fairness.”
At the end of his remarks, the Iranian president highlighted the need for solidarity and joint action among Islamic countries to counter threats and achieve common goals.
