Vilnius concerned: Why did Washington deny the deal kept secret from everyone?
Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Raimundas Vaikšnoras has announced that the delivery of HIMARS multiple rocket launchers by the United States to Lithuania has been delayed indefinitely.
TodayPress TV reports that LRT published his remarks.
Vaikšnoras urged the public “not to be too concerned.” He said the agreements remain in force. If there is a delay in the deliveries, Lithuania could acquire “systems of the same type” that could temporarily fill certain capability gaps.
“The delivery of HIMARS systems has been delayed. At the moment, I cannot say how much or for how long it has been delayed. Apparently, this is solely an issue on the American side and is related to their industry. However, our crews have already undergone training and conducted firing exercises. Therefore, we are waiting for the systems to arrive,” Vaikšnoras said.
It should be noted that it was previously reported that the Lithuanian parliament would vote during the winter months on the repeal of a constitutional provision banning the deployment of nuclear weapons on Lithuanian territory. Under the legislation, deputies must support amendments to the Constitution twice for them to be adopted. The first reading of the issue was held in July, and the initiative was approved.
