Turkish Foreign Ministry issues STRONG statement to EU – All accusations rejected
The European Commission’s report on Türkiye reveals a biased stance that falls short of fairness.
TodayPress TV reports that this was stated in a statement issued by Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement reads:
“The report prepared by the European Commission on our country as part of the 2026 Enlargement Package once again reveals the European Union’s biased and unfair stance towards Türkiye.
We reject the unfounded allegations contained in the report, particularly those concerning political criteria, the judicial system and fundamental rights. These accusations reflect the double standards adopted by certain EU officials, as well as a contradictory mindset that has lost its credibility.
As in previous years, we observe that the report endorses the maximalist positions of Greece and the Greek Cypriot side, which are detached from reality and inconsistent with international law, while once again disregarding the legitimate rights and interests of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as well as their justified policies. We would like to reiterate that the EU cannot contribute to efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue as long as it unconditionally supports the position of the Greek Cypriot side”.
The statement also noted that the report’s assessments concerning the Eastern Mediterranean were entirely contrary to international law and the principle of fairness, while its remarks on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Türkiye and Libya had no legal validity:
“Türkiye-EU relations should be shaped on the basis of mutual interests and a long-term vision, beyond narrow political calculations and unilateral approaches. Türkiye is ready to develop relations based on mutual trust, respect and fairness, in accordance with the principles of partnership rights and commitment to obligations.
We expect the EU to demonstrate the strategic will required by our shared future by turning the increased dialogue of recent times into concrete decisions that strengthen our membership perspective”,- the statement emphasised.
