All roads to Tehran blocked… Britain announces tough new sanctions – Details

The UK government has adopted a new legislative package aimed at significantly tightening its sanctions regime against Iran.

TodayPress TV reports that the information was provided by the country’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

The new restrictions are intended to completely limit Tehran’s access to the global financial system and minimise its ability to finance its nuclear programme.

Under the new sanctions package, extensive blocking measures are being imposed on Iran’s trade, maritime transport, metallurgy, energy, gold mining and software sectors.

In addition, the export of key goods, technologies and services considered critical to Iran’s conventional arms production, military capabilities and nuclear programme is being completely prohibited.

Tehran’s ability to operate within the UK’s banking, insurance and maritime transport sectors is also being frozen.

According to the information, with certain humanitarian exceptions, aircraft operated by Iranian airlines will be banned from landing at UK airports. At the same time, sanctions powers targeting maritime vessels involved in Iran’s destabilising activities are being expanded.
