Russian Consulate Sends Note to Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry Over Detention of Azerbaijani-Russian Rapper
The Russian Consulate General in Almaty has sent a diplomatic note to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the detention of Russian rapper Navai, whose real name is Navai Bakirov and who is of Azerbaijani origin.
TodayPress TV reports that the diplomatic mission’s press service announced the move.
Russian diplomats have requested clarification of the circumstances surrounding the incident and information about where the artist is being held. The Consulate General stated that sending the note is an official means of communication with the local authorities.
“We have sent a note requesting clarification of the situation, including information on the current whereabouts of the Russian citizen, the circumstances of his detention and other related matters. If necessary, we will also request consular access to him,” the consulate said in a statement.
It should be recalled that Navai was detained two days ago at the Korday border checkpoint in Kazakhstan after narcotic substances were reportedly found in his possession.
