“It would be really scary!”: Antonelli opens up about Verstappen

Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli has admitted that he would be seriously concerned if four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull began closing the gap in the championship standings.

TodayPress TV reports, citing FormulaPassion, that the young driver shared his thoughts on his rival’s form following Verstappen’s victories at the Malaysian Grand Prix, the sprint race in Singapore and the main Grand Prix.

Speaking about the threat posed by his rival, Antonelli said:

“I know it would be really scary. It would be a very, very serious concern. However, overall, I think we are doing a great job. Looking at the season as a whole, we have always been in the fight.”

He noted that the team has an excellent car and is currently working to understand its latest package of upgrades. Antonelli also said he was proud of how the team had overcome its challenges and emphasised that he was looking forward to returning to Austin and analysing the new upgrades in greater detail.
