US ‘deadly’ destroyer arrives in Spain

The USS John Basilone, a US Navy destroyer of the Arleigh Burke class, has arrived at the Rota naval base in Spain’s Cádiz province.

TodayPress TV reports that this was announced in a press release issued by Spain’s Ministry of Defence.

Defence Minister Margarita Robles attended the ceremony welcoming the ship. It was stated that the destroyer’s arrival completes a phased deployment process agreed upon by the governments of the two countries, aimed at strengthening NATO’s missile defence system in southern Europe.

The ministry added that Spain and the United States are fulfilling their commitment to increase the number of destroyers stationed at the Rota base from four to six.

It should be recalled that the fifth US warship arrived in Spain in October 2024.
