Iran erases the Caspian Sea from the map
Iran’s state television has replaced one of the traditional Persian names for the Caspian Sea with the term “Caspian Sea” in its weather forecasts.
TodayPress TV reports that the change came into the spotlight following a programme aired on Ofogh TV, reportedly affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), titled “Mapping the renaming of the Caspian Sea to Khazar Sea”.
One of the experts appearing on the programme stated that the name was not of Iranian origin and that its use by Iran was met with ridicule internationally.
