Sanctions against Iran continue – This time, the target is…

The United States has added 35 entities and one Egyptian national to its sanctions list concerning Iran.

TodayPress TV reports that the relevant statement has been published on the website of the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

According to the information, the restrictions have been imposed on 35 airlines and other companies operating in the air transport sector. The companies are based in Iran, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Türkiye and Kazakhstan.

A statement issued by the US Treasury Department’s press service said the sanctions were imposed to pressure Iran’s aviation sector, which facilitates the “transportation of weapons, military personnel and illicit cargo” on behalf of the interests of Iran’s armed forces.

The department also issued a general licence allowing transactions necessary to wind down financial operations involving sanctioned individuals and entities to be carried out until September 23.

At the same time, the US authorities revoked a licence that had allowed US-made aircraft to temporarily remain in Iran, as well as the import of spare parts and technology into the Islamic Republic for repair purposes.
