US set to launch “hell sanctions” against Russia

A bill providing for new and tough sanctions against Russia in the United States could be put to a vote in the House of Representatives next week.

TodayPress TV reports, citing Bloomberg, that the bill drafted by Senator Lindsey Graham and presented as a package of “hell sanctions” against Russia is expected to be considered by a simple majority vote.

Opposition to the bill is reportedly growing in the House of Representatives. The main concern is that the legislation could expand US President Donald Trump’s authority to impose tariffs, potentially leading to higher oil prices.

Nevertheless, sources cited by Bloomberg say House leadership has decided to move the bill forward.

The US Chamber of Commerce and a number of business organizations have expressed concern over the inclusion of tariff provisions in the bill. In their view, these provisions could provide the Trump administration with a new legal basis for imposing sweeping tariffs.

In a draft letter expected to be sent to the House of Representatives, business groups have urged Congress to remove the tariff powers from the bill.

The letter emphasizes that it would be more appropriate for the United States to focus on targeted sanctions, preventing sanctions evasion, and coordinated diplomacy with countries purchasing Russian energy resources.
