“Only Red Bull could come up with something like this” — Verstappen speaks ahead of race
Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has shared his thoughts on taking part in an unusual karting race to be held at Silverstone.
TodayPress TV reports that the Dutch driver will compete against 100 rivals.
Verstappen will start the race from the back of the grid and attempt to overtake all of his rivals. Ahead of the race, the experienced driver told Red Bull’s press service:
“I raced karts from the age of four until I was 15, so this is a great opportunity to return to my roots and remember where my journey in motorsport began. When I get to the track, the main focus will be on learning the circuit and getting used to the level of grip the kart has on the track. I think I’ll get back into the rhythm quite comfortably.
“I know some of the participants will be very fast and everyone will be taking the race seriously. It will be very interesting and exciting to watch all this chaos unfold in front of me. Racing against 100 people is not easy, and it will require patience to get out of the traffic as quickly as possible. I haven’t been behind the wheel of a kart for several years, so it will be interesting to get back in and see what I’m capable of. But I have a lot of rivals to get past. Let’s see how it goes!”
