A bear entered the bedroom of a 17-year-old girl while she was sleeping and attacked her in the US state of Colorado.

TodayPress TV reports, citing ABC News, that the incident occurred early on September 13 in the city of Durango.

The bear pushed through a partially open window, tore through the screen and entered the room. The teenager woke up after noticing the animal and hid under her blanket. However, the predator struck her in the abdomen with its paw, leaving three scratches.

The teenager began screaming. The bear then climbed back out through the window, but immediately returned to the room. The girl got out of bed and continued making loud noises, eventually forcing the animal to leave the room.

Luke Clancy, a district manager with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, said the fact that the girl had several blankets covering her when the bear attacked was a major stroke of luck.

It should be noted that Colorado has recorded a record number of incidents involving bear attacks on people this year. Authorities attribute the increase to drought, which has depleted the animals’ food sources.

Earlier, a bear in Buryatia forced a pensioner to climb a tree.
