Madrid-based Atlético Madrid are ready to lower the release clause in striker Julián Alvarez’s contract under one condition.

TodayPress TV reports, citing El Chiringuito, that Atlético Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has promised the 26-year-old forward that if he scores at least 20 goals in all competitions during the 2026/27 season, the compensation fee required for him to leave the club will be reduced.

In the spring, Barcelona were reportedly closely interested in Alvarez, while the player himself was also said to be considering a move to another club.

Last season, the Argentine striker scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 49 appearances for Atlético Madrid. In the previous season, Alvarez recorded 29 goals and eight assists in 57 matches.
