Georgia approves new head of State Security Service

The Georgian Parliament has approved Tamaz Borashvili as the head of the country’s State Security Service (SSS).

TodayPress TV reports that 83 lawmakers voted in favor of his candidacy.

Under Georgian legislation, the head of the State Security Service is appointed for a six-year term.

It should be noted that Tamaz Borashvili served for many years as director of the State Security Department of the SSS and has held the position of deputy head of the State Security Service since September 2025.

It should be recalled that former Georgian State Security Service chief Geka Geladze resigned on September 14. He was appointed deputy interior minister.
