US plans major arms shipment to Israel — $3 billion arsenal
The United States plans to send Israel nearly 40,000 heavy bombs as part of a new $2.8 billion weapons package.
TodayPress TV reports, citing US officials, that the package is expected to include 2,000-pound Mk84 and BLU-117 bombs.
Concerns that bombs of the same type could cause civilian casualties in Gaza led the Biden administration to suspend their shipment to Israel. After Donald Trump returned to office, however, the restriction was lifted.
The bulk of the agreement is expected to be financed through the US Foreign Military Financing program.
