The Iranian authorities have doubled the price of petrol outside the subsidised quota.

TodayPress TV reports that under the new decision, from September 8, the price of one litre of petrol under the third tariff will be 10,000 tomans.

Prices under the first two tariffs have not changed and remain at 1,500 and 3,000 tomans, respectively.

The third tariff applies once the first two limits on the fuel card have been exhausted.

The decision comes as Iran faces economic pressure. In recent days, various statements have also been made about the possibility of Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz.
