Conflict with Iran has cost the US dearly: $47 billion
The US military’s expenditure on the war with Iran has exceeded $47 billion, more than a quarter higher than the estimate released by the Pentagon in July.
According to TodayPress TV, Reuters reported the figures, citing the US military.
According to the report, more than $29 billion of the total will be needed to replenish ammunition stocks depleted during combat operations. A further $6 billion-plus has been earmarked to replace lost military equipment, including aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The report noted that the estimates do not fully include the substantial costs of repairing US military bases damaged by Iranian missile and drone attacks.
The cost of the war is rising ahead of the US congressional midterm elections scheduled for November 3. Republicans, who hold narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress, are facing the political consequences of the conflict. Rising global energy prices are also negatively affecting support for Republican candidates and President Donald Trump’s approval rating.
