Ferrari not rushing: Vasseur reveals challenges in engine development

Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur has spoken about the team’s plans for developing its engine.

TodayPress TV reports, citing FormulaPassion, that Vasseur said improving the power unit is a long-term process:

“Developing an engine takes a lot of time. It is not like a chassis, where you can make an upgrade in a short period and close the performance gap. Lead times for engine components are long, and it is not easy to do all of this within budget constraints.

“We did not expect to immediately close the gap to Mercedes with the first or second ADUO upgrade. We are making progress in small steps, but it should not be forgotten that even a few additional horsepower can allow you to make a big leap on the starting grid. We have planned the new ADUO-1 (2027) engine for next year, and our goal is to reduce the gap as quickly as possible. However, we did not expect it to be possible to catch Mercedes within a few months.”
