Chelsea are planning to strengthen their squad during the winter transfer window.

TodayPress TV reports, citing BBC, that the London club’s main target for January is to sign a central midfielder. The Blues were unable to find a replacement for Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández, who joined Manchester City for €145 million in the final days of the summer transfer window.

At the end of August, Chelsea were reportedly interested in Sander Berge (Fulham), Lamine Camara (Monaco) and Manu Koné (Roma), but the move for the French club’s midfielder fell through at the last minute.

According to the source, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is also on Chelsea’s January shortlist.

The team’s need for a new midfielder was once again highlighted in their Premier League third-round match against Arsenal (1–2). In that game, head coach Xabi Alonso finished the match with right-backs Reece James and Malo Gusto playing in central midfield.
