Rename the Caspian Sea, Iran’s first vice president proposes
“I propose reconsidering the name of the Caspian Sea and having the government officially adopt ‘Caspian’ as the sea’s name.”
TodayPress TV reports that the proposal was made by Iran’s First Vice President, Mohammad Reza Aref.
According to him, the Meteorological Organisation recently used the name “Caspian Sea” on a map broadcast on television.
Aref said there were two opposing views regarding the name “Khazar”, with one side firmly rejecting it. He added that some non-Iranian researchers had also questioned why Tehran uses the name “Khazar” instead of “Caspian”.
