İf Putin goes to Miami… What did Merz demand?
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said that Ukraine must also take part in discussions on resolving the conflict if Russian President Vladimir Putin attends the G20 summit in Miami.
TodayPress TV reports that “Politico” has published the remarks.
Merz described both discussing Ukraine’s future without the participation of its representatives and inviting the Russian leader to the G20 summit scheduled for December as “completely unacceptable”.
“If Ukraine is at the negotiating table, Europe will be there too,” the German chancellor stressed.
He noted that Europe wants to be involved in the conflict resolution process and has a responsibility to do so. According to Merz, key elements of a peace agreement, including sanctions and the security architecture, can only be agreed upon in consultation with European countries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, said that the United States and Russia cannot discuss Ukraine’s potential membership in the European Union.
