Plans to deploy European troops in Ukraine following a possible ceasefire have triggered fresh disagreements between Moscow and the West.

TodayPress TV reports, citing Global Strategy’s X account, that British troops deployed in Ukraine would be authorised to return fire in response to attacks by Russian forces.

“We will undoubtedly protect our forces against any aggression,” a Western official said, commenting on the planned stabilisation force to be led by Britain and France.

The force would be deployed in Ukraine only after a ceasefire had been reached and at Kyiv’s request. It would operate outside NATO structures and, reportedly, would not use US systems such as Starlink.

Starting November 9, around 2,800 troops from 11 countries, including 300 British soldiers, will begin exercises in Poland to rehearse the deployment operation.

Several hours later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov rejected the idea of deploying international stabilisation forces in Ukraine.

“What are they going to stabilise?” he asked.

Would Moscow ever agree to the deployment of European troops in Ukraine?
