Four tankers hit sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz
Military tensions around the Strait of Hormuz have escalated further. Iran has claimed that a mine attack was carried out against tankers operating in the area and that several vessels were seized.
TodayPress TV reports, citing Iran’s Tasnim news agency, which quoted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
“Four violator tankers attempting to pass through the prohibited area south of the Strait of Hormuz struck naval mines and were destroyed; they are currently engulfed in flames. Two more violator vessels have been seized and detained,” the statement said.
The military also reported that the IRGC’s air defence forces had shot down their 56th MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle over the Strait of Hormuz.
The post did not specify which country the downed drone belonged to.
