Federer to return? Legend reveals dream opponent

Swiss 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has revealed which current tennis player he would like to face in an exhibition match.

TodayPress TV reports that Federer specifically singled out Carlos Alcaraz.

The legendary tennis player said he had never faced Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner in an official match, adding that he had only trained with them during the early stages of their careers.

“I would like to play Carlos Alcaraz — he is a very exciting tennis player. I never had the chance to play against him or Jannik Sinner. We trained together a few times when they were still on the rise. Unfortunately, I missed part of that generation because of problems with my knee.”

Federer also said that an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic could be an interesting option:

“Of course, Novak Djokovic would also be a great option. He is still playing at a high level and continues to stay on tour. That is wonderful.”

Federer also expressed his delight at Alcaraz’s return to the court and wished the Spanish player success.

“It is nice to see Carlos back. I am glad that he was able to recover. Let’s see how he feels. I wish him all the best. But I don’t need to think about how I would play against him, because I am not on the tournament entry list,” Federer said at a press conference.

Federer, who ended his career in 2022, participated in two exhibition matches during fan week at the 2026 US Open. He first played one set against Andy Roddick and won 6–3. Later, teaming up with John McEnroe, the Swiss defeated Andre Agassi and Roddick 7–5.
