End of an era: 40-year-old Monfils bids farewell to the New York courts!

French tennis player Gaël Monfils has ended his run in Grand Slam tournaments after losing to American Learner Tien 3-6, 4-6, 3-6 in the second round of the US Open, TodayPress TV reports.

Despite the defeat, the 40-year-old Monfils was given a standing ovation by the fans.

Spectators at Louis Armstrong Stadium chanted his name in unison, while after the match, the experienced tennis player thanked the crowd for their support. In his on-court interview, Monfils recalled that he first competed at the tournament in 2003 as a young player and emphasized that he had always felt the love of the fans there over the years.

A special ceremony was also held on court in honor of Gaël Monfils. The French star will officially bring his professional career to an end at the conclusion of the current season.

It should be noted that Gaël Monfils reached the semifinals of the US Open in 2016 and the French Open in 2008. He also achieved a career-high ranking of No. 6 in the ATP rankings.
