The costs of cancer treatment and heart transplant surgeries in Azerbaijan should be covered by compulsory health insurance.

TodayPress TV reports that the proposal was made by Ahliman Amiraslanov, chairman of the Healthcare Committee of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, during discussions on the draft 2027 state budget at a joint meeting of parliamentary committees.

The committee chairman stressed the importance of covering cancer treatment costs through compulsory health insurance. He noted that the provision of medication to patients receiving outpatient treatment had been discussed repeatedly but remained unresolved. The MP expressed hope that medication costs for outpatient treatment in Azerbaijan would be covered by insurance in 2027.

Amiraslanov also recalled that heart transplant surgeries had begun to be performed in Azerbaijan over the past two years. Noting the high cost of these procedures, he proposed that they be covered by compulsory health insurance starting in 2027.
