Türkiye’s “Blue Homeland” extending as far as Somalia is not a geographical claim – Tatlıoğlu
Turkish Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu has said that the “Blue Homeland” strategy covers a broad geographical area stretching from the Aegean Sea to the Black Sea, and from the Eastern Mediterranean to Libya and Somalia.
TodayPress TV reports, citing the Defence Turk account on X, that Tatlıoğlu emphasised that the “Blue Homeland” concept brings together the protection of national maritime interests, security, energy, scientific research, the defence industry and diplomacy under a unified state strategy.
According to him, the Aegean Sea represents the protection of national rights and crisis management; the Black Sea stands for safeguarding the Montreux regime and regional security; while the Eastern Mediterranean and Libya reflect the legal determination of maritime boundaries and the expansion of diplomatic opportunities.
The commander noted that Somalia symbolises Türkiye’s ability to extend its scientific research, energy and security capabilities into distant maritime regions through partnerships.
He added that the “Blue Homeland” concept is not an unlimited geographical claim, but a state strategy that brings together Türkiye’s maritime trade, energy, defence and diplomatic interests.
