MFA: november 8 is a symbol of the people’s national unity, unbreakable will, determination and devotion to the Motherland.
November 8 – Victory Day – is one of the most glorious chapters in the centuries-old history of Azerbaijani statehood. This significant day symbolises the historic victory achieved in the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, as well as the national unity, unbreakable will, determination and devotion to the Motherland of the Azerbaijani people.
TodayPress TV reports that this was stated in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on the occasion of November 8 – Victory Day.
The statement noted that six years ago, under the leadership of President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, and thanks to the heroism of the Azerbaijani Army, Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani territories, which had lasted for nearly 30 years, was brought to an end. The liberation of Shusha on November 8, 2020, secured victory in the Patriotic War.
“As a result of the local anti-terrorist measures carried out in September 2023, Azerbaijan’s state sovereignty was fully restored.
The victory achieved in the Patriotic War proved that no force can undermine national unity, the determination to defend statehood or our people’s resolve to reclaim their lands”.
The MFA noted that in recent years, Azerbaijan has been carrying out large-scale measures to restore and rebuild the territories liberated from occupation.
“Under the Great Return Programme, efforts are continuing to establish modern infrastructure and ensure the return of former internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes.
Azerbaijan is also advancing its efforts to strengthen long-term peace and stability in the region. The purposeful and consistent steps taken by Azerbaijan towards building mutual trust with Armenia over the past period serve to transform the South Caucasus from a region of conflict into one of peace and progress.
All this has become possible thanks to the realities created by Azerbaijan.
Our Victory is the pride of our history, the strength of our state and the eternal honour of our people.
On this significant day, we respectfully commemorate the dear memory of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and defence of our Motherland, and express our profound gratitude to our veterans and all those who took part in the war.
Happy Victory Day!”
