Trade unions representing workers in France’s education and research sectors have called for a new nationwide strike on november 10.

TodayPress TV reports that this was announced in a joint statement published on the website of the trade union organisation “CGT Education”.

“We call for Tuesday, november 10, to be a day of protest action, including demonstrations, rallies and strikes, in support of young people and workers in the national education system, higher education and research sectors”,- the statement said.

The new protests were prompted in particular by the government’s decision to hold a conference on wages on november 9. Trade unions are concerned that representatives of the public sector will not take part in the conference.

“If this is confirmed, it will be another provocation”,- the statement said.

The organisations are demanding higher salaries for teachers and other education workers, the creation of additional jobs, improved working conditions and increased budget allocations for education and scientific research.

Their demands also include the creation of 15,000 positions in the higher education and research sectors, scrapping the planned job cuts outlined in the 2027 budget proposal, and expanding young people’s access to higher education.
