Berlin stands firm on Russia sanctions despite Washington
Germany intends to tighten sanctions against Russia despite the US decision to ease certain restrictions.
TodayPress TV reports, citing AFP, that Washington’s agreement to allow Russian diesel fuel onto the global market has not changed Berlin’s position towards Moscow.
Germany will therefore continue its efforts to persuade the European Union to impose new restrictions on Russia.
German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said Berlin had taken note of the US decision to ease sanctions imposed on Russia following the war in Ukraine. Nevertheless, Germany continues to work with its European partners on introducing new restrictions.
According to Kornelius, the agreement aimed at easing fuel shortages does not mean that Germany is backing away from its policy of expanding sanctions against Russia.
