Former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl, who heads the G.O.R.K.I. Centre at St. Petersburg State University, has said that Germany is rapidly rearming and has not ruled out the possibility of European countries entering into a military conflict with Russia.

TodayPress TV reports, citing RIA Novosti, that Kneissl expressed these views in an article published in the magazine Politika.

“Will Europe actually enter a war, or is this merely a bluff? Given the growing irrationality in many European Union capitals, I would not rule out the possibility that they might decide to start a war,” Kneissl wrote.

According to her, Germany is investing more than any other European country in rearmament. The perceived Russian threat has become one of the key arguments shaping Berlin’s state budget and political agenda.

The former Austrian foreign minister noted that some European Union countries that describe themselves as neutral are participating in large-scale arms deliveries to Ukraine. At the same time, she said that NATO members Türkiye and Hungary were demonstrating a more restrained approach.

Kneissl believes that confrontation with Russia allows European leaders to divert public attention from domestic problems and support their economies through the military-industrial sector.

She compared the current situation in Europe with the atmosphere that prevailed on the eve of World War I.
