Social media platforms in Türkiye will be prohibited from providing services to children under the age of 15. Restrictions on social media use in the country will come into force on November 1.

TodayPress TV reports that the relevant regulation has been published in the Official Gazette.

Under the rules, children under 15 will not be allowed to use social media. Platforms must establish a separate regime for users aged 15 to 18, incorporating enhanced safety and privacy measures.

Users’ ages will be verified through a special identifier via the e-Devlet system. Accounts belonging to teenagers aged 15–18 will be private by default. Live streaming, personalised advertising and certain content recommendation mechanisms will be prohibited for this age group.

In addition, platforms will not be allowed to recommend teenagers’ profiles to other users.
