At least 12 people, including three children, have been killed in strikes on residential buildings in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia.

TodayPress TV reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the casualties on his Telegram channel.

According to Zelenskyy, another 14 people were injured in the attack, two of them seriously. Search and rescue operations are continuing at the scene. Authorities are also working to establish the whereabouts of 12 other people who may have been in the affected area at the time of the attack.

Zelenskyy said that 13 regions of Ukraine had come under attack overnight. The strikes damaged residential buildings, infrastructure and railway facilities.

The Ukrainian president alleged that Russia had struck Zaporizhzhia in response to the easing of sanctions on Russian diesel fuel exports. He stressed that reducing pressure on Russia was being interpreted by Moscow as a signal that would allow it to continue the war.
