Major development in brotherly country – Could Azerbaijan adopt it too?

In Uzbekistan, the practice of citizens using solar panels installed on the roofs of their homes to meet their own electricity needs and generate income by supplying surplus energy to the state grid has attracted attention. This model enables wider household use of renewable energy and allows citizens to participate in energy production. Azerbaijan has also created a legal framework allowing solar panels to be installed at private homes and the electricity generated to be supplied to the grid.

But how feasible is it for citizens in Azerbaijan to sell surplus electricity to the state and earn real income?

TodayPress TV reports that MP Vugar Bayramov told Globalinfo.az that the use of renewable energy by citizens is already being implemented in a number of countries:

“This system already exists in several countries, including brotherly Türkiye, Uzbekistan and others. Azerbaijan has also improved its legislative framework in this area. Significant amendments have been made to the relevant legislation. In recent years, particularly regarding the use of green energy, the legislative framework has been substantially improved.”

According to Vugar Bayramov, this practice can also be used in Azerbaijan:

“Because our country has significant potential for using solar and wind energy. Our citizens can, for example, install solar panels and use solar and wind energy to meet their own energy needs. On the one hand, this means a sustainable energy supply for those citizens.”

The MP said that in some countries, citizens even sell part of the energy they generate to the state, and the system is integrated into the overall energy network:

“As a result, a citizen can produce energy for their own consumption on the one hand, while on the other hand earning income by selling part of that energy. We have submitted our proposals regarding the implementation of these practices in Azerbaijan as well. We believe that this could also be considered acceptable for Azerbaijan.”
