Newcastle United defender Amar Dedić became the focus of a police operation after being spotted carrying a bow and arrows in Northumberland, England.

TodayPress TV reports, citing the Daily Mail, that at least six patrol cars were deployed to search for the footballer and another person accompanying him.

The incident began after a witness reported seeing two men with weapons near a reservoir outside Newcastle. Several police vehicles, both marked and unmarked, were dispatched to the area. Armed response units were also among the officers sent to the scene.

Dedić and his companion were eventually stopped in the upmarket Darras Hall area, around 11 kilometres from the initial location. Police searched their vehicle and seized the bow and arrows. The 24-year-old footballer was then questioned about the circumstances of the incident.

During the officers’ conversation with Dedić, Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and former club defender Paul Dummett also arrived at the scene. According to reports, they happened to be passing through the area, stopped and offered assistance.

After speaking with the men, police concluded that there was no threat to the public. Law enforcement representatives later said the equipment had most likely been used for recreational purposes. Nevertheless, inquiries into the incident continued throughout the day.

According to reports, Dedić and his companion had also fired several arrows during their outing in the countryside. However, it remains unclear what targets they were aiming at. Hunting any animal or bird with a bow and arrow or crossbow is prohibited in the United Kingdom.

The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle’s management does not plan to take disciplinary action against the player. However, sources within the club reportedly believe he showed poor judgement by deciding to walk around the countryside carrying such equipment.
