Belgian Ambassador to Moscow Michel Jerebtsov was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 13 over statements made by Belgian officials concerning Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced this, TodayPress TV reports.

“On October 13, Belgian Ambassador to Russia Michel Jerebtsov was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Belgian diplomat was informed that the Russian side firmly rejects the unfounded and increasingly frequent claims by Belgium’s military and political leadership about alleged growing hybrid, subversive and direct military threats originating from Russia against Belgium and Europe,” the ministry said.

The head of the Belgian diplomatic mission was also informed that openly aggressive statements by certain Belgian officials, deliberately portraying Russia as an enemy, contribute to a further escalation of tensions and increase the risk that the confrontation they are fuelling could spiral out of control.

“The Belgian side was urged to assess the consequences of such statements and tone down its anti-Russian rhetoric, which is contributing to a further escalation of tensions on the European continent,” the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasised.
