US asks its ambassador to Greece to resign — what is the reason?

The US administration has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle, its ambassador to Greece, to resign amid a controversy surrounding her.

White House Press Secretary Katie Zachariah made the announcement during her first briefing, TodayPress TV reports.

“We asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a valued member of our team, and we wish her success in her future endeavours,” Zachariah said.

She did not disclose the specific reasons behind the decision.

It should be recalled that The Wall Street Journal previously published an article detailing remarks allegedly made by the ambassador in March during a private event in Athens.

According to the report, Guilfoyle told a Greek minister that the United States had caused the collapse of the government in Bucharest and could do the same in Athens.
