Secret talks amid ongoing war: What are the US and Iran discussing?

US President Donald Trump’s administration has held secret talks with Tehran to arrange the deportation of Iranian migrants while the war between the two countries continues.

TodayPress TV reports, citing the Associated Press (AP), that US officials coordinated with Iranian authorities on preparing the documents required for deportations and determining routes for returning Iranian nationals, including through third countries.

During a court hearing on October 15, Judge Ana Reyes warned that deported individuals could face a serious and imminent risk of death upon returning to their country. However, a representative of the US Department of Justice said the government was only carrying out legally authorised deportation orders.

According to the report, more than 100 Iranian nationals were returned to Iran on three flights between September 2025 and January 2026.
