Türkiye unveils major nuclear energy plan

Türkiye is continuing talks with Russia, China, Canada and South Korea on the construction of new nuclear power plants.

TodayPress TV reports that Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar spoke about this in an interview with the Sabah newspaper.

“Russia is interested in participating in the nuclear power plant projects in Sinop and Thrace. The Russian side wants to use the experience and human resources it has developed through the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant here as well. In addition to Russia, we are also holding talks with Canada, China and South Korea on other nuclear power plant projects. Apart from Akkuyu, we plan to build eight more reactors,” the minister said.

He added that no agreements have yet been signed on the new nuclear power plants:

“We want to make a decision in the coming months and complete the legal procedures for signing the agreements.”

Türkiye plans to build four reactors in Sinop and four more in the Thrace region, while negotiations are ongoing with South Korea, Canada, China and Russia.
