How does the US pressure countries? Havana exposes Rubio’s alleged strategy

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is personally pressuring national leaders to change their positions and withdraw support for a draft resolution calling for the lifting of the blockade against Cuba.

TodayPress TV reports that Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla made the statement at a press conference in Havana.

“This pressure is being applied personally by the US secretary of state. He has been doing this for several months, and we have evidence,” Rodríguez Parrilla said.

He recalled that on October 27–28, the UN General Assembly would once again consider a draft resolution calling for the lifting of the US trade, economic and financial blockade against Cuba.

“This will be the 34th time the issue has been considered. One of the new aspects this time will be the issue of US pressure on countries to change their position on supporting Cuba, a position they have maintained for decades,” he said.

Rodríguez Parrilla also stressed that Cuban authorities were aware of such pressure being exerted in a number of countries.
