Mecca Agreement submitted to Turkish Parliament for consideration
The 16-article Mecca Agreement signed by Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia has been submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM).
TodayPress TV reports that the agreement obliges the other parties to provide immediate assistance if one of the signatories comes under attack.
The agreement envisages the establishment of a committee comprising defence ministers and chiefs of general staff, with the first secretary-general to be appointed from Pakistan. Another provision stipulates that the parties may not withdraw from the agreement during its first 10 years.
It should be recalled that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in Mecca on August 7.
